Maps to GPX is a web tool for turning Google Maps directions into GPX files that are easier to import into Garmin, Wahoo, Bryton, and similar cycling workflows. It keeps ride preparation quick and can include turn-by-turn cues when route data allows.
Paste a Google Maps directions URL or a maps.app.goo.gl short link after creating a route. The best results come from route links that include a start and destination, not place-only links.
Downloaded GPX files are designed for normal route import workflows such as Garmin Connect, Wahoo ELEMNT, Bryton Active, and compatible planning tools. Choose route or track output depending on how you want to navigate.
When supported route instructions are available, Maps to GPX includes turn-by-turn cue information such as left turns, right turns, and junction prompts so the file is more useful during a ride.
Google Maps share URLs do not all contain the same route data. Maps to GPX explains the URL formats, turn-by-turn limits, and pre-ride checks so the generated GPX is useful before you import it into a cycling computer.
Paste a route link that includes a start, destination, and any planned stops. Links that expand to /maps/dir/ are usually easier to parse than URLs that only open a restaurant, shop, or landmark page.
Turn cues are included when the share URL exposes readable route steps. If the URL does not include instructions, the generated file may still be useful as a track line for review and import.
After downloading the GPX, check it in Garmin Connect, Wahoo ELEMNT, Bryton Active, or your usual route app. Road closures, bike access, device recalculation, and local rules can change the final route.
The converter reads the submitted Google Maps URL only to prepare coordinates and cue information for GPX output. It is designed to work without account registration or a required login.
GPX is a shared format, but device apps handle route points, tracks, and cues differently. If you are unsure, start with Track output for a stable line and try Route output when turn prompts matter.
Before importing into Garmin Connect, check distance, course name, and turn display. Point simplification can help when older devices or long routes struggle with large files.
After importing through the Wahoo app, confirm that the route line and any cues sync to the ELEMNT device. Track-style files can be more predictable when you only need a line to follow.
Open the GPX in Bryton Active or your route manager and confirm that the whole route is visible. Lightweight files may be easier to handle on older devices and long-distance routes.

A single place URL usually does not contain enough route data. Create directions in Google Maps first, then share a URL that includes the start and destination.
Some app-specific links and short links omit route details. Reopen the route in a browser, confirm the start, destination, and stops are visible, then copy a fresh share URL.
Choose Route when navigation cues matter. Choose Track when you mainly want a stable line to display on the map. Device apps handle these formats differently, so test the file before a real ride.
Always review it first. Google Maps routing, GPX conversion, and device recalculation can all introduce differences, so current road conditions and your judgment should come first.
